The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island (URI) has an opening for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the broadly defined area of Biomaterials. Preferred start date is August 2020.

Basic Function:

The successful candidate will teach core chemical engineering courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, including an undergraduate Biomaterials Engineering course; advise students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; conduct an externally-funded research program; and serve on departmental and university level committees.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at URI is housed in the newly-constructed 190,000 sq.ft. Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering (opened Fall 2019). The center comprises active learning classrooms, research laboratories, and state-of-the-art core facilities. The Chemical Engineering department offers programs leading to BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. Qualifications

Required:

1.Ph.D. in chemical engineering or a closely related field.

2.Demonstrated expertise in biomaterials or a closely related field.

3.Demonstrated ability to become an effective teacher of core chemical engineering curricula at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

4.Demonstrated the likelihood of developing an externally-funded research program in biomaterials or a closely related field.

5.Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement as evidenced by publications, presentations, and/or awards.

6.Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

7.Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

8.Demonstrated strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.

Preferred:

1. B.S. in chemical engineering or a closely related field.

2. Postdoctoral and/or equivalent industrial experience.

3. Preferred experience teaching Biomaterials or a closely related course.
