General Description / Primary Purpose

The Department of Psychology at the University of North Florida invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Behavioral Neuroscience (Position #300210). The position will begin in August 2020.

The position is a full-time tenure track appointment with primary responsibilities in teaching, research, and service/outreach. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Psychology program with duties to include teaching courses in the department curriculum consistent with their background, developing a research program, and participating in professional and university outreach and service activities. The Psychology Department at UNF offers a BA and a BS in Psychology, a BS in Behavioral Neuroscience, and a MS in Psychological Sciences. About 1000 undergraduate psychology majors and 35 graduate psychology students are enrolled at the University of North Florida. These students are supported by 22 full-time faculty. The department’s research collaborators include faculty within other academic departments, the Jacksonville Zoo, and Mayo Clinic research centers. In addition, the department features state-of-the-art eye-tracking and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) equipment.

Job Function

Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain a productive program of research; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology and behavioral neuroscience, including courses related to the candidate’s particular area of expertise (3-3 teaching load); supervise undergraduate research; supervise graduate students’ theses in our Master’s in Psychological Science program; and contribute to service in the department, university, and profession. Our goal is to attract candidates who demonstrate the ability to work with and engage diverse students, colleagues, research participants, and clientele from diverse backgrounds. UNF faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic excellence in all phases of instruction, research/scholarship/creative activity, and service.

2. Commitment to student, faculty, and staff diversity;
3. Potential to conduct and publish high-quality research, as indicated by publication in peer-reviewed journals and transparent research practices; and
4. Evidence of or potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic researcher and communicator who has excellent written and oral communication skills namely the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students; the ability to establish a research program; an appreciation for diverse constituencies and effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
