General Description / Primary Purpose

The Construction Management (CM) Department within the College of Computing, Engineering, and Construction is seeking applicants for a full-time assistant professor position (9-month appointment) to start August 2020. The department is looking for applicants that will strengthen and complement the existing Construction Management faculty in regards to teaching and research.

Established in 1972, the University of North Florida has grown significantly in size and prominence, particularly in recent years. Today, UNF has over 17,000 students, an annual economic impact of more than $1 billion, and works closely with community leaders and officials to continue to enhance the significant role it plays in the region. Our campus, which includes a nature preserve, beautiful lakes and nature trails, is located between downtown Jacksonville and the Atlantic Ocean in a bustling section of Jacksonville. Here you will find award-winning buildings filled with state-of-the-art equipment that support innovation and excellence. Small class sizes and individualized attention are two of our hallmarks. The construction management program has seen double-digit percentage enrollment growth each of the last several years.

Being strategically located in a major metropolitan area in a growing state, the Department of Construction Management receives overwhelming support from Florida’s strong construction industry. ACCE & ABET accredit the construction management undergraduate program and a Masters degree program is in the final stages of approval. Our students recently enjoyed national success in the ABC and NAHB student competitions and have lately had a 100% job placement rate upon graduation with very competitive salaries.

Essential Duties

Job Function

1.Teach courses within the Construction Management program; in particular, willingness to teach classes in Scheduling, MEP Systems, Soils & Foundations, Surveying, Estimating, Construction Documents & Contracts, Construction Safety, Construction Finance, BIM, and Housing & Land Development classes.
2.Help develop and teach in the pending Masters Degree Program.
3.Pursue a scholarly research agenda, professional development, and outreach based on the university’s teacher-scholar model.
4.Work with the department on developing the required documents for accreditation.
5.Work with and mentor students, student organizations and clubs, and student competition teams.
6.Collaborate with related disciplines, industry partners, and the First Coast community.

Required Qualifications
1.Ph.D. in construction management or related field by the position start date.
2.Record of accomplishment performing scholarly research.
3.Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, conduct themselves professionally, and perform appropriate service functions at the department, college, and university level.

Departmental Requirements

Preference given to those who meet the Required Qualifications and also possess the following:
1.Relevant teaching experience, with preference given to teaching experience in higher education.
2.Relevant professional experience in the United States construction industry.
3.Professional certifications or licenses related to the construction industry.
4.Competency in construction management software applications.
5.Ability to teach an integrated curriculum applied to a variety of construction building areas including: design management, jobsite management, residential, commercial, and heavy civil.
6.A construction related research specialization; including but not limited to Construction Materials or Technology or Modeling in Construction.
