General Description / Primary Purpose

The School of Engineering at the University of North Florida (UNF) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Civil Engineering at the Assistant Professor level, commencing in 2020 with preferred start date of August 2020. An earned Doctorate in Civil Engineering, or other closely related field, with a specialization in geotechnical engineering is required. Candidates with a professional engineering license or ability to secure one within 2 years are desired. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated professional or research experience in the geotechnical engineering issues specific to Florida, including but not limited to: sinkholes, organic soil stabilization, expansive clay issues (i.e., settlement, expansion, creep, etc.), deep foundations (both piles and drilled shafts), soil-structure interaction, coastal erosion, or sustainable soil improvement including bio-engineered/bio-inspired methods. Experience working with the Florida Department of Transportation is a plus. A commitment to excellence in teaching and research will be expected of the successful candidate, along with a willingness to learn. Collegiality, active service and participation in governance in accordance with the vision and mission of the school, college and university are also expected.
