The Department of Surgery is a clinical department within the School of Medicine with the attendant responsibility for medical education and research. The Chair of the department is also the Chief of Surgical services for the hospital. The department includes 36 full-time faculty members in the sections of: transplant surgery, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical oncology, general and bariatric surgery, and trauma and acute care surgery. It also includes clinical and basic science research labs. The 70+ employees in the department support our clinical, education and research programs.
The Department of Surgery at East Carolina University is dedicated to providing state of the art care to patients in eastern North Carolina. The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center (VMC).

Vidant Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. VMC is a fully accredited JCAHO hospital and is a 974 bed tertiary referral center, providing acute, intermediate, rehabilitation, and outpatient health services to more than 1.5 million people in 29 counties.

Job Duties

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, Department of Surgery, is seeking a Colorectal Surgeon to join its division of Surgical Oncology. The Division of Surgical Oncology is dedicated to providing state of the art care to patients in eastern North Carolina. Candidates will be treat a combination of benign and malignant colorectal conditions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to rapidly integrate into an active, collaborative clinical, teaching and research program.

The candidate will join 5 surgical oncologists and one colorectal surgeon in providing patient care, classroom instruction in general surgery for medical students, and appropriate training and supervision for surgical residents. A strong interest in academics and research is desired.

Fixed-term or tenure track position available at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Minimum Education/Experience

MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution required and full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in NC.

Board certified or board eligible in colorectal surgery, completion of colorectal surgery fellowship(s), strong interest in academics and research.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

NC Medical license and board certification or board eligible

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

In addition to outstanding clinical skills, the ideal candidate should have documented research productivity and/or documented excellence in teaching and education. Applicants with 3-5 years of experience are preferred. New graduates are also encouraged to apply.
