Position Summary

The HR Director – Organizational Effectiveness is responsible for managing and supporting the assessment of need-based interventions that enhance managerial and leadership development, strengthen organizational culture and effectiveness, enhance employee knowledge and employee engagement. The Director provides strategic leadership and talent management best practices to design, implement and evaluate of programs that facilitate the professional development and continuous learning of Middlebury’s staff, with particular emphasis on managers and emerging leaders. The Director will oversee the implementation of systemic change through the creation and reinforcement of talent management initiatives and talent development programs in collaboration with the HR strategic partnership Directors and teams to support HR’s strategic goals.

General Responsibilities

•Manage the institutional organizational effectiveness (OE) strategies and processes
•Manage and support the assessment of OE needs of operating and functional units and strategize solutions for organizational effectiveness
•Lead the design, development and implementation of programs, policies, strategies tailored to meet OE needs and program goals, to include, but not limited to, in partnership with the other HR teams:
oOversee competency development and architecture
oSupport Leadership Alliance
oFacilitate development support for senior leadership team
oManage the talent review process, assisting in the facilitation
oDevelop and implement new strategies for effective OE programs in support of organizational effectiveness
oManage the follow-up and operationalization of ongoing cultural initiatives such as employee engagement
oProvide oversight and support to institutional on-boarding programs to ensure new employees acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviors to become effective organizational members.
•Design and execute key programmatic elements of the OE process in partnership with HR teams
•Evaluate strategies and programs to measure the achievement of established OE goals
•Assist with the provision of expert facilitation and coaching to supervisors and managers regarding OE tools and methods
•Ensure talent programs and curricula are aligned to overall institutional strategy, values, objectives and core competencies
•Provide programming that supports institutional objectives, serving as facilitator and curriculum designer as needed.
•Plan and lead short- and long-term planning for OE programs
•Prepare budgetary recommendations that meet departmental goals and provide for effective management of resources
•Manage all employees in the OE function and responsible for the performance management and hiring of employees within this function.
•Keep abreast of professional development trends and serve as a subject-matter expert to the organization
•Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

B.A. in organizational development/organizational behavior or related field. A Master’s degree or HR-related advanced degree, as well as SHRM certification is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Exceptional strategic and organizational planning and project management skills. Strong business acumen and communication and consultation skills. A strong interest in organizational development and talent management practices. Requires the ability for critical evaluation, cultural awareness, leadership, change and relationship management. Proficient with Microsoft office, Oracle and presentation software.

Experience

•Minimum of 10 years’ in a strategic level HR leadership role.
•Seasoned HR professional with extensive experience in organizational development/organizational behavior
•Demonstrated passionate HR leader with extensive experience in a transformational/change management leadership role; proven ability to drive cultural change across an organization.
•Proven success and strong foundation developing professional development programming and skilled in facilitation and presenting to executive teams as well as at large group meetings.
•Experience in conducting program assessments to ensure program effectiveness.
•Expertise in the alignment of performance management, reward and recognition programs to further organizational goals and objectives.
•Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a high stress environment and be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
