General Summary

As need arises, the Department of World Languages at Eastern Michigan University seeks part-time lecturers to teach German courses which may include courses in beginning and intermediate levels in German.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching may include a number of particular obligations which employees are expected to fulfill, including but not limited to: meeting with students during and outside of assigned classes, offering classes online, assessing student work and performance, preparing syllabi and course materials, providing copies of syllabi and course materials to their supervisor on request, and assigning and submitting grades in accordance with established Eastern Michigan University schedules.

Perform related departmental duties as required.

Qualifications

The selected candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Germanic Languages and Literatures. Candidates with prior university level teaching or training experience in the classroom with positive evaluations are highly desired. Evidence of success in teaching and post-MA training is required for assignments to more advanced undergraduate courses. Native or near-native German proficiency is required. Experience in German Literature, Linguistics, Translation, and International German Language teaching experience preferred. Extensive experience living in a German-speaking country is also desirable.
