Job Summary

We are looking for an accomplished, experienced, and creative Systems Administrator to join our Linux Team. This Systems Administrator will reliably manage infrastructure and integrated services that support Miami University’s academic, research and business missions.

Work Environment:

If you are a Linux systems administrator who enjoys developing infrastructure as code, cloud and datacenter operations, and building reliable, flexible infrastructure with a purpose this is the job for you! As a Linux systems administrator if you enjoy exploring new technologies within the system infrastructure realm and imparting you high-skills to junior systems administrators you will excel in this role. Our Linux systems administrators work collaboratively as a team to diagnose problems and transform our infrastructure. We are a learning-based team that supports individuals to better their skills through guided experienced-based learning in service to the University. Our team culture encourages communication between staff.

Job Duties

You will perform, at an experienced level, the following:

  • Linux system administration and configuration within the command line
  • Incident management, service requests, and change management
  • Linux-based scripting and automation using tools like bash and Puppet
  • Leading junior systems administrators through skill development.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a team of systems administrators

Reporting to the Manager of Enterprise Database & Systems Operation. You'll guide strategy and lead technological direction within a team of Linux systems administrators. As a member of this team your responsibilities can include a broad range of infrastructure:

  • AWS with Terraform automation
  • Server automation service.
  • Enterprise alerting and logging systems
  • VMware vSAN Cluster
  • Server infrastructure for our enterprise database services
  • Enterprise backup
  • Infrastructure for our CI/CD services.
  • Enterprise storage
  • High-performance compute cluster

You will serve in an on-call rotation and carry a smartphone. Otherwise normal working hours.You will be asked to perform other duties as assigned Additional opportunities for involvement within the University include:

  • Opportunity to teach one credit-bearing course per semester with departmental approval, if you so choose
  • Engaging with student clubs as an advisor
  • Contribute as a guest lecturer in a course

Minimum Requirements

  • Require a Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Require at least 4 years of experience demonstrating a progression in Linux Systems Administrator experience.
  • Require experience writing and developing scripts or other programing-based automation of system administration tasks.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident, admitted for residence as an applicant under the 1986 immigration amnesty law, refugee asylee.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience providing the knowledge/skills/abilities listed above may be substituted. Experience in these knowledge/skills/abilities may be earned concurrently.
