The County Extension Educator position is an exempt professional staff role within UGA Cooperative Extension responsible for managing the many resources offered by a county office and local community entities. This work typically carries major responsibilities within a local County Extension office. A Extension Educator coordinates and schedules time as needed for the satisfactory delivery of the county 4-H program policies and procedures as mandated by the State 4-H Office. An Extension Educator is under the supervision of the County Extension Coordinator; however, a high level of independent judgment is used to effectively carry out essential duties of the job and manage both Extension program administration and 4-H education delivery by developing techniques and procedures as appropriate. Incumbent will identify, recruit and train recognized 4-H volunteers in planning, teaching, and evaluating Cooperative Extension 4-H programs. Incumbent assists club members in preparation for competitive events, such as project achievement, judging teams, etc. Incumbent plans and works within a budget, while adhering to established policies and procedures in regards to the 4-H program.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Good communication skills – oral and written. Ability to work with diverse population. Knowledge of Cooperative Extension 4-H program activities, such as camping, projects, competitions, and codes of conduct.

Physical Demands

Some degree of physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs., used to conduct program (e.g. supplies, demonstration materials, audio/visual equipment, etc.), but not excessive for this position. Some standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Assist 4-H club members with preparation for competitive events, such as project achievement at district and state levels, judging teams, county fairs, etc. Transport or arrange for transportation of 4-H’ers to various district and state events, and if assigned, provide leadership for youth while attending these events. Plan all local community service projects, such as highway and river clean-up. Incumbent supports and helps lead school anti-drug and alcohol programs, bullying prevention/education, and safe driving courses that exemplify dangers of texting and drinking while driving, through grant funded programs, for which incumbent has submitted grant proposals.

Conduct in-school club educational meetings and deliver prepared curriculums that meet state (Georgia Professional Standards) guidelines. Incorporate the results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs and techniques used in implementing programs. Incumbent is responsible for fundraising, including planning projects, doing cost analysis, acquiring materials, media promotion, and delivery of goods or services. Incumbent writes and publishes county 4-H newsletters for different 4-H club member age levels. Supervise program assistant and volunteers to maximize time and resource efficiency.

Identify, recruit, and help train involved and recognized 4-H volunteers in planning, teaching, and evaluating Cooperative Extension 4-H programs. Assist interested volunteers in successful completion of the 4-H Chaperone Training. Incumbent updates volunteer paperwork, including checking references and submitting background investigaitons.
These trainings include the following divisions of County 4-H programs: Archery team (acts as head coach) and Consumer Judging and Poultry Judging teams.

Make reports to appropriate clientele, staff members, Board of Education, Board of Commissioners, and public officials through electronic mass media (county website, internet, etc.), personal contracts, and/or group meetings. Submit accurate, complete reports in timely manner in Georgia Counts, 4-H enrollment, and District office as required. Incumbent will plan and conduct advisory group meetings periodically to communicate with local leaders and supporters county 4-H program needs and achievements.

Assist staff with day-to-day operations of Cooperative Extension county office by answering phone, processing mail, distributing publications, greeting visitors, filing documents, etc.
