Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

Incumbent will be responsible for support of BSL-2 laboratory activities. Incumbent is responsible for the laboratory support duties such as washing and autoclaving glassware, routine and preventative maintenance of lab equipment. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing culture media, reagents, buffers and other solutions. Incumbent will be expected to order, stock and inventory supplies as needed; maintain a clean and sterile lab environment; assist with administration duties such as package shipping and receiving, mail retrieval, answering phones and processing visitors. Incumbent must have good communication skills and will report directly to the Research Manager and as a fully productive, cooperative team member.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Ability to work well with others in the lab group.
Basic laboratory skills, including sterile technique, cell culture and basic analytical skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Detail oriented and accurate.
Ability to learn and acquire new skills in a fast paced environment.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments with little supervision.
Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Physical Demands

1. Lift and carry up to 15 pounds, both assisted and unassisted.
2. Communicate effectively via telephone, email, and in person to varied stakeholders.
3. Utilize computer technology for all applications in a manner that meets performance expectations.
4. Sit or stand for long periods of time and use of repetitive actions during the entire work day.

Prepares culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions. Conducts complex research experiments as assigned by supervisor. Follows concise lab protocols to process samples under precise requirements from sponsor or research dollars.

Percentage of time55 Duties/Responsibilities


Maintains inventory of chemicals, media and other supplies through the UGAmart software to ensure sponsored research is not held up due to lack of supplies.
