Position Summary

The Library Department at St. Catherine University invites applicants for a Collection Development Librarian. The Collection Development Librarian provides vision and leadership for a collections strategy to align with the University’s curriculum, scholarship, and mission. The Collection Development Librarian oversees management of the library’s resource budget, licensing, and vendor relationships. They will lead activities in the reporting of usage data for ongoing assessment and development for all of the library’s collections. In collaboration with other librarians, the Collection Development Librarian will contribute to the development and management of the Library & Archives’ repository, archives, and special collections.

Responsibilities:
•In coordination with library staff and University stakeholders, develop high-quality, user-centered library collections that support the University’s curricular and research objectives.
•Strategically develop collection policies, procedures, and assessment methods that incorporate best practices and sustainability, with an emphasis on electronic resources, content creation, and support for open access initiatives.
•Oversee the ordering, receiving, and invoicing of library materials, including firm orders, approval plan, and subscriptions in all formats.
• Analyze budget and usage data to evaluate current collections and guide collection development decisions.
•Works with liaison librarians regarding subject-specific resource acquisition, de-selection, and licensing.
•Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, publishers, and consortia including cost negotiations, subscription renewals, and product trials.
•Along with Online Services & Systems Librarian and the Cataloging & Metadata Librarian, ensure that electronic subscriptions, streaming media, and open access materials are activated, discoverable, and accessible with attention to streamlining workflows.
•Monitor the expenditure of funds, including gift funds, maintain records, and assist in library budget planning.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program
•2-3 years of professional library experience
•Demonstrated experience with collection development and the electronic resources lifecycle
•Fluency with issues and systems related to access and discovery of electronic products
•Budget management experience
•Demonstrated experience assessing collections and electronic resources
•Demonstrated experience managing a variety of acquisition models, particularly PDA/DDA/EBA models
•Experience working with an Integrated Library System (ExLibris’ Alma and Primo)
•Experience with electronic resource management (ERM) systems
•Ability to work independently with accuracy and appropriate attention to detail as well as the ability to work within a team environment where flexibility and collaboration are essential
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience with maintaining working vendor relationships, including resolving product and service issues and reading, managing, and negotiating license agreements.
•Experience working with ExLibris’ Alma and Primo
•Understanding of data gathering and analysis techniques to support descriptive and inferential statistical analysis.
•Familiarity with institutional repositories within scholarly communities
