Leadership Gift Officer

The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University is seeking applications for a Leadership Gift Officer. Reporting directly to the Associate Dean for External Relations, he/she will develop programs and execute strategies to raise significant funds in support of the Law School’s institutional priorities, with an immediate focus on our Vision 2020 capital campaign.

The position personally manages a prospect portfolio of 150-200 prospects with an annual goal of 100-120 visits. The Leadership Gift Officer is expected to manage these relationships, to cultivate, solicit, and close gifts and steward both alumni and non-alumni donors, as well as help identify and research new prospects for the Law School. He/she will be responsible for developing customized briefing documents and solicitation materials as needed. He/she will also play an active role in donor stewardship programs and the creation of new programs to expand the Law School’s fund-raising capability. The Leadership Gift Officer will assume a lead role in the development and management of key cultivation and fund-raising events in relation to the Vision 2020 capital campaign. He/she will work closely with the Dean of the Law School, the Associate Dean for External Relations, the Assistant Dean for Communications and other alumni and development staff to promote the Law School’s strategic plan. He/she will also perform special projects as required by the Dean and Associate Dean for External Relations. The position has no direct reports. 

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or higher and 5-7 years of progressive experience in development and demonstrated success in major gifts fund-raising. In addition, the candidate will be a proven leader and communicator who can articulate, verbally and in writing, the law school’s mission and strategic goals and expand the law school’s community of donors.

We are looking for a candidate with energy and enthusiasm, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and organizational skills. Experience in higher education, particularly in a law school setting, is preferred. Some travel is required.  Knowledge of the New York City and/or Long Island philanthropic community is desirable.
