Position Summary

Big Bend Community College invites applications for a part-time Pre-Employment Transition Services Program Coordinator/Trainer. This position will develop, oversee, train, and lead DSHS/DVR transition services (Exploration Clubs and Work Based Learning I & II) to DVR eligible high school students (ages 14 – 21) from 9 school districts in the BBCC Service district.

This position is funded with a two year, renewable contract with DSHS, 50% appointment for 12 months. Total payment for the year would be $14,924.00 paid on quarterly contracts.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

Essential Job Duties

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Strategize, develop and oversee the DVR Transitional Services programs (Exploration Clubs and Work Based Learning I & II), including district and student recruitment, CBIS team participation and collaboration, participant training, tracking, and overseeing DSHS invoicing.
  2. Outreach to regional DVR resources and other resource programming to assist in the direct delivery of classroom based Transitional Services to 9 school districts (students ages 14 – 21) in the BBCC Service district.
  3. Collaborate with district high school administrations and faculty to strategize on transitional service initiatives.
  4. Create and develop curriculum, coordinate presenters, and lead training for students participating in Transitional Services programming. Areas of training could include: Info on BBCC programming, Communication skills, financial literacy, social skills, mobility and travel training, college success skills, FAFSA completion, job seeking skills, job readiness, soft skills training, conflict management, getting along on the job.
  5. Oversee, develop and collaborate the Work Based Learning program - an on-campus internship program in partnership between DVR and BBCC. Identify areas of interest for students, collaborate and secure work based learning opportunities – both on campus and off, as needed. Provide on-the-job support for each student participating in this program.
  6. Monitor and guide contract compliance including the maintenance of program records, including: participation, instructional contracts, required participant registration and consent, DSHS contract needs, evaluation forms, program invoicing, reporting, and others as needed and/or requested.
  7. Research and identify other resources and information in the area of Teen Worker Rules and DVR Initiatives, in order to provide continuous improvement and development in the area of DVR Transitional Services.
  8. Travel to area school districts and conferences as needed.
  9. Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be requested by the supervisor.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Equivalent experience my substitute, year for year, for the education requirement.
  • Previous experience presenting and teaching to small and large groups of individuals, including the development of presentation materials such as slides and handouts.
  • Experience (high level of confidence and ability) of all Microsoft Office products - Excel, PowerPoint, and Word specifically, in a professional setting.
  • Must posses a current, unencumbered driver's license.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications or Education or related field from an accredited institution. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Previous teaching and/or training experience - a teaching certificate is desirable.
  • Experience providing services to diverse populations.
  • Experience working with students from a diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and reliably. Regular and consistent attendance is expected and required.
  • Experience with budgeting, tracking, and monitoring revenue and expenses.
  • Bilingual fluency, especially in Spanish.
