The program, More In My Basket (MIMB), is funded by a grant from USDA Food and Nutrition Services and is housed in the Department of 4H Youth Development and Family & Consumer Sciences at NC State University. This multi-county education program promotes and facilitates the delivery of outreach information and programming to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) likely eligible population in counties across North Carolina. MIMB is delivered by Cooperative Extension Family & Consumer Sciences and 4-H Youth Development Agents.

Essential Job Duties

The program, More In My Basket (MIMB), promotes and facilitates the delivery of outreach education, information, and programming to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible population. The Program Coordinator’s key role is to promote and facilitate the delivery of outreach information and programming to the SNAP-eligible population. The incumbent will coordinate a multi-county education program targeted to these populations and work with Extension agents in the Family and Consumer Sciences and 4-H Youth Development programs as well as partnering agencies. The position requires that you be self-initiating, able to multi-task effectively in a complex educational/academic environment, and be skilled in managing grant budgets. The Extension Associate works under the guidance and direct supervision of Dr. Carolyn Bird, Professor and Principle Investigator (PI).

Essential duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage project funds to ensure expenditures align with project budget and provide regular budget updates to the Project Director.
  • Provide state-level coordination and management of county personnel activities and track county personnel progress toward the stated objectives and goals to insure integration, modification, and completion of all activities among staff and collaborators.
  • Serve as liaison between county program staff (Cooperative Extension Agents and CEDs) and NCSU program staff for any programmatic issues.
  • Provide day-to-day coordination management of the program including tracking scheduled events and Program Staff site visitations.
  • Provide on-site support to county staff for outreach activities in addition to (or instead of) Outreach Facilitator.
  • Facilitate county outreach via monitoring or developing newsletter interest pieces and radio announcement segments for use by county staff.
  • Conduct social media outreach via the program website and Twitter account. Create and develop blogs directed at potential SNAP participants.
  • Manage the program website and collaborate with website vendor (problem resolution, blog postings, calendar postings, comments).
  • Review and analyze all incoming data, and review agent feedback to insure consistent delivery of MIMB program and quick resolution of any problems.
  • Conduct data entry, statistical analysis, and generate statistical reports for integration in project reports.
  • Produce county-level project reports to support agent reporting to county and state stakeholders.
  • Oversee/collect, review and manage evaluation information collected to support the annual report as defined in the SNAP Outreach Guidance Plan.
  • Generate statistical reports for integration in project reports.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director for the planning, implementation and evaluation of program training via web-based technologies and/or conference calls for the initial in-service, and all quarterly training sessions covering program delivery and best practices.
  • Support campus-based outreach through the development of community partnerships and participate in community coalition and related meetings to advance program outreach venues.
  • Develop methods to maintain partnership relationships and ongoing communication with collaborators to facilitate outreach events.
  • Work with the Project Director to provide overall leadership, direction, and coordination in the planning, implementation, and evaluation (according to SNAP Outreach Guidance) of More in My Basket.
  • Other related duties such as coordinate the preparation and submission of the annual SNAP Outreach proposal.
  • Backup the Outreach Facilitator in staffing the 1-800 “in-reach” number , responding to agent/participant questions, completing survey calls backs, and completing benefit screenings/application assistance.
Other Work/Responsibilities
  • Oversee the ordering and/or design of program outreach materials.
  • Act as the repository for and promote the sharing of “best practices” among county personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Public Health, Sociology, Social Work, or relevant field.
  • At least 1 year providing / coordinating /managing program support for a geographically distributed program.
  • At least one year of experience managing a grant-funded program.
Departmental Required Skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Experience with outreach program funded by USDA, FNS; or health related grant-funded or contract-funded programs.
  • Experience in team-oriented goal setting and implementation.
  • Possess research, program development, and evaluation skills.
  • Experience with programs serving low-income programs and consumers.
  • Experience with SPSS statistical software.
  • Experience with website management, preferably in a WordPress environment.
  • Experience with social media communications such as, blogging and tweeting, and video communications.
  • Good technical skills including internet technology including wireless.
  • Devices and Microsoft Office programs and other relevant software programs.
Required License or Certification
  • A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
