This posting is to fill Communications Operator role with the following shifts:

- 11 p.m. (Friday) to 7 a.m. (Saturday) and
- 11 p.m. (Saturday) to 7 a.m. (Sunday) WEEKENDS

- 11 p.m. (Saturday) to 7 a.m. (Sunday)
STATUS:Part time
DEPARTMENT:Campus Police
DIVISION:Administrative Services
CLASSIFICATION:Non-exempt
UNION:Non-union
REPORTS TO:Chief of Police through the chain of command
PLACEMENT: Clerical Grade 5
MINIMUM PAY RATE:$14.91 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

Requires the ability to remain calm in highly stressful situations and the ability to take control professionally when dealing with angry or excited customers. Must be able to “think on ones feet” in fast changing volatile situations. Must be able to perform a wide array of clerical duties while using discretion and maintaining a high level of confidentiality. Responsible for the daily operation of the Communications Center, including responding to calls via phone, radio and in person; both emergency and non-emergency. Must be able to perform data entry and retrieval while multi-tasking other duties. Must be familiar with the working policies and procedures of the College and Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Serve as primary contact for staff, students and public both in person and by phone, for the Police Department. Take and dispatch calls for service, answer questions and provide information to public.
2.Serve as primary contact with Police Officers, CSO’s and Student Workers by dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls, responding to radio traffic and providing requested information to street staff.
3.Input and access data from law enforcement systems, and maintain CAD logs, and all required documents.
4.Monitor video surveillance equipment, alarm boards, fire panel, maintenance alarms and respond per department procedures.
5.Obtain and maintain required LEADS certifications and proficiently operate LEADS computer and maintain all required documents.
6.Maintain and update Communications Operators Manual.
7.Train new Communications personnel.
8.Utilize CAPERS and CAD effectively, including generating IR numbers, entering door checks, watches, DNT/OVNs, Lost and Found Property, Vehicle Stickers, Entity Records, Contact Files and all report functions.
9.Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.High School Diploma or equivalent.
2.One (1) year of experience in modern office setting with working knowledge of computers and office equipment.
3.Strong computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel as well as data input and retrieval.
4.Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm and deescalate volatile situations.
5.Strong verbal and written skills and the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse population under high stress situations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Prior experience as a police communications operator or other law enforcement employment.
2.Familiarity with the College Datatel system and law enforcement computer/data systems.

If you would like to receive the ASR, FSR or MPP in booklet form, you may stop by the Campus Police Department located on Main Campus in G 1013 or call Campus Police at 815-280-2234. The website and booklet contain information regarding campus security and personal safety such as crime prevention and reporting, police law enforcement authority, disciplinary procedures and other related security policies. They also contain information about crime statistics for the three previous years for all JJC campuses, property owned and controlled by JJC District 525 and on public property immediately adjacent to JJC campuses.

This information is required by law and is made available by the Joliet Junior College Police Department.
