The School of Theatre and Dance is dedicated to providing undergraduate students with superior, professional training in theatre and dance. In our rigorous, conservatory-style training within a liberal arts setting, students are taught and mentored by a diverse faculty of active professionals, who work to prepare them intellectually, artistically, and practically, to be leaders in their chosen profession.

Job Duties

Teaching Assistant Professor – Scenic Designer

This is a fixed-term position for our well-established, rigorous BFA-Theatre Arts programs. Responsibilities include: scene design for ECU/Loessin Playhouse main-stage season that consists of six productions per academic year; mentoring student scenic designers; supervising and mentoring of student crews in scenic painting and/or properties; teaching related courses from a menu including Scene Design, Advanced Scene Design and Scene Painting.

ECU’s School of Theatre and Dance is a NAST accredited facility.

Contingent upon availability of funds.

Minimum Education/Experience

MFA or equivalent professional experience in Scenic Design, Scenography, or Production Design. All degrees must be conferred by an appropriately accredited institution or certified as equivalent to required accredited education.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Not applicable

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Professional experience in Scene Design; proficiency in AutoCAD or Vectorworks, proficiency in Photoshop/Adobe CC; Professional experience in paint and/or props.
