Tenure-Track/Tenured Position in Financial/ActuarialMathematics

The Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. An applicant should make a stable commitment to provide intellectual leadership for UCLA's evolving program in Financial/Actuarial Mathematics and those components of its Mathematics-Economics program that concern financial mathematics. A suitable candidate need not be a credentialed actuary or a professional in financial mathematics, but a background of research and/or professional activity directly relating to these areas (broadly construed) would be helpful.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) or expect to complete their Ph.D. by June 2020. A competitive candidate should have a transformative research program and show excellence in undergraduate teaching and educational innovation. We encourage applications from distinguished candidates at senior levels. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

    Temporary Faculty Positions 2020-21
    E.R. Hedrick Assistant Professorships

    The Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles, invites applications for E.R. Hedrick Assistant Professorships. Appointments are for three years. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in a relevant area and should show evidence of excellence in teaching and research.Preference will be given to applicants whose researchconnects to faculty interests in the department or who can address specific teaching needs.

    The teaching load for Hedrick Assistant Professors is typically four one-quarter courses per year. Apart from the standard Hedrick Assistant Professorship line, there are three specializations that address particular research and teaching needs in the department. Applicants hired for one of these specializations must be willing to primarily teach courses in these areas.

    Specialization in Computational and Applied Mathematics (CAM): The teaching load for these positions is normally reduced by research funding to two one-quarter courses per year.
    Specialization for Program in Computing (PIC): Applicants for this specialization must show strong promise as instructors for courses in computing.
    Specialization in Financial Instruction (FAM): Applicants for this specialization must have research-level expertise in a field related to financial or actuarial mathematics, and must be willing to master new content in these areas for instructional purposes, as needed. Relevant fields include probability, statistics, financial, and actuarial mathematics.

Appointments are normally for two years, with the possibility of renewal for another year. The teaching load is six one-quarter courses per year. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in a relevant area and should show evidence of excellence in teaching and research.
