Senior Instructional Designer - Learning Management System (LMS)

Overview

The McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning seeks a highly qualified Senior Instructional Designer (ID) to provide pedagogical, administrative and instructional support to faculty, teaching assistants, staff and students as Princeton moves to a new learning management system (LMS).  This is a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic project team and play a critical role in helping over 1,200 faculty members and some 8,000 students successfully move to a new LMS. 

 

As one of the core members of the LMS Implementation Project Team, and reporting to the functional lead on the project within the McGraw Center, the Senior ID will help make sure the team meets important milestones and develops collaborative and effective partnerships with faculty, teaching assistants, staff, students and other campus colleagues with a stake in the project.  Based on an understanding of the many ways in which an LMS can support and improve teaching and learning, the Senior ID will serve as a principal pedagogical resource in the McGraw Center for faculty and graduate teaching assistants on LMS related questions. The Senior ID is responsible for developing a suite of pedagogical resources and best practices for faculty, develop tailored workshops, as well as hold individual consultations and Office Hours.

 

This position is a 2-year, benefits eligible term position, with the possibility that it could evolve into a permanent position. We are currently recruiting for 2 openings. 

 

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a key pedagogical resource for faculty and staff for LMS related questions & collaborate with faculty to make creative and effective uses of the LMS 
  • Work with a small group of early adopters to adapt their existing courses to the new LMS
  • Work with cohorts of faculty to migrate course content from previous course sites, and collaborate with them on identifying the ways in which the LMS can advance their teaching goals, and expand learning activities, assessment strategies and collaboration opportunities
  • Develop a suite of printed and online tutorials and instructional materials for faculty and staff
  • Design and teach tailored workshops for faculty and staff, and hold 1-on-1 consultations and open hours
  • Collaborate closely with, and mentor, other instructional designers on the LMS Implementation Project Team to help meet project milestones and goals 
  • Work with the LMS Implementation Project Team to configure Princeton’s course templates and integrations
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the McGraw Center to explore new pedagogical opportunities offered through the LMS, and how activities in the system can integrate with classroom instruction
Qualifications

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Master's or Professional degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated experience with forming collaborative and constructive relationships with faculty and staff at a higher education institution
  • A demonstrated understanding of issues related to teaching and learning at a large research university, including an understanding of faculty culture
  • In-depth understanding of college-level pedagogy, including active learning principles, and instructional design concepts and theories
  • Thorough knowledge of learning management systems, and an excellent understanding of processes and standards for planning and implementing instructional design in an LMS
  • Experience with supporting instructional technology and developing instructional materials

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to organize and work effectively with a variety of groups and with an understanding of organizational policies and activities 
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and in a team environment, with a service focused attitude
  • Excellent writing, listening and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple and simultaneous tasks, and prioritize, schedule and meet deadlines
  • Prior teaching experience in a higher education environment 
  • Knowledge of Drupal and WordPress preferred
