Vice President for Inclusive Excellence

Wright State University (WSU) seeks applications and nominations for the Vice President for Inclusive Excellence. The Vice President for Inclusive Excellence provides vision, leadership, inspiration, management, and strategic planning for diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at Wright State University. Reporting directly to the President, they are also responsible for developing a system-wide approach to enhancing excellence through Inclusive Excellence, diversity, inclusion and accessibility of students, faculty, and staff. The Vice President for Inclusive Excellence will design, implement, and assess the diversity, inclusion and accessibility initiatives to ensure alignment with the university's long-term strategic plan. The Vice President for Inclusive Excellence will establish an Inclusive Excellence infrastructure that embeds diversity and inclusion across all dimensions and sectors of WSU. To that end, they will create an organizational culture that sets clear expectations, holds everyone responsible for diversity and inclusion, provides appropriate support, and stimulates respect and dignity at all levels of the organization. The person in this position will serve on the President's Leadership Team and support administrators as they work to practice Inclusive Excellence in their respective areas.

Wright State University located 12 miles northeast of downtown Dayton, Ohio, offers more than 295 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional degree programs through eight colleges and three schools. The university also operates a regional campus, Wright State University–Lake Campus, on the shores of Grand Lake St. Mary’s in Celina, Ohio. Enrollments on the two campuses surpassed 12,000 undergraduate and 3,500 graduate, doctoral and professional students in Fall 2018. Wright State University was named to honor aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright, who invented the world's first successful airplane in their Dayton bicycle shop. In fact, the Wright brothers conducted most of their early test flights at Huffman Prairie, just minutes from the Dayton campus. Wright State University takes pride in its beautiful 557-acre campus, which includes lush forests and a biology preserve. The university’s state-of-the-art facilities include 71 academic and support buildings, 33 student residential buildings, and a world-class entertainment and athletics venue. Underground tunnels connect 20 of 22 buildings in the academic section of the Dayton campus, shielding students and employees from any adverse weather and adding to the university’s national reputation for accessibility for those with disabilities.

The Vice President is expected to have a master’s degree; five years of experience leading diversity work; experience as a subject matter expert in diversity and inclusion; experience working collaboratively with colleagues, as well as with communities; strong communication skills; demonstrated ability to provide and implement leadership initiatives; and thorough knowledge of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the 1991 Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and other applicable laws.

Preferred consideration will be given to candidates with a doctoral or terminal degree; 7-10 years of experience designing and implementing diversity, inclusion and engagement initiatives within a complex institution or organization; ability to facilitate positive and collaborative processes and initiatives coupled with measurable deliverables; ability to communicate a compelling and inspired vision or sense of core purpose, set clear milestones, and motivate large teams or groups of people; experience with traditional and adult learners; experience with seeking external funding; diversity training certification; and is active in state and national equity and diversity organizations.
