For the DIME (Detroit Institute of Music) program on the Denver Campus of Metropolitan State University of Denver. Need affiliate instructor to teach public speaking from a perspective of the world of music. Communication Arts and Sciences faculty cultivate student skill in understanding, evaluating and producing communication. The persons added to our affiliate instructor pool are part-time faculty who work on a contracted basis dependent on department needs.

Qualified applicants will be placed in the departmental pool and will be considered for affiliate/part-time departmental needs in Fall 2017.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teach 1-9 credit hours per semester on the Denver campus of Metropolitan State University of Denver for the DIME (Detroit Institute of Music) program. Maintain availability for consultation with students as needed. Teach assigned courses in Public Speaking (Speaking around Music). Will work and interact with students from diverse backgrounds

Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, as needed, on a semester by semester basis. Affiliate Faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program. All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment. An Affiliate faculty member’s duties include: meeting assigned classes or delivering on-line content consistent with college, school, and department policies; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with department course coordination policies; being available, either face to face or electronically, to students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; and complying with college-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.

Teaching may include online, face to face, and hybrid instruction, face to face instruction may include day, evening, and weekend as needed.

Required Qualifications

Communication Studies – a Master’s Degree in Communication or closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Communication Studies – a doctorate in Communication.

BA or MA in music or experience as a musician.

Experience teaching public speaking

Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English language learners.
