Postdoctoral Research Associate - Health Systems Engineering   

Job Description Summary   

The Health Systems Engineering (HSE) Program at Florida Polytechnic University is seeking exceptional post-doctoral fellowship candidates for an immediate opening in the area of healthcare systems engineering, or related field. Successful applicants will support Poly’s initiative to develop a new educational, research-focused and entrepreneurial program that connects health systems and engineering.
This opportunity will allow the candidate to participate in the development of a brand-new program and concept while conducting independent research. The candidate will actively engage with health organizations in Central Florida to promote a healthcare systems perspectives and methods to improve healthcare delivery, efficiency and effectiveness, patient safety, access, and treatment.
The candidate is expected to write proposals, teach and mentor students, work and submit peer-reviewed publications, and actively seek and apply for grant funding from agencies such as the National Science Foundation, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, National Institutes for Health, Center for Disease Control and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid among others.   

Job Description   

General responsibilities include:

  • Identifying research opportunity areas consistent with areas of faculty expertise and that can be used in the undergraduate program for projects and graduate program for thesis.
  • Initiating, managing, and completing applied and theoretical research projects in collaboration with Industrial partners
  • Recruiting and mentoring students in their research and projects
  • Assisting in the development of healthcare systems/data analytics courses and some level of teaching

The successful candidate will benefit from career development and mentoring under the supervision of Dr. Grisselle Centeno – Professor in the Department of Data Science and Business Analytics and Director for the HSE program.

Applicants are particularly sought in systems engineering, data analytics and health informatics but also will be considered in any area of industrial engineering, statistics, and operations research.


  • A doctorate in industrial engineering, operations research, healthcare management science, or a closely related field is required.

EXPECTED STARTING SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
