TNPRC Summer Research Program

Location: Covington, LA


The Tulane National Primate Research Center (TNPRC) offers a nine week Summer Research Program to a limited number of undergraduate students interested in biomedical research. The program introduces students to the principles and practice of scientific research.

 Successful Program candidates are paired with a TNPRC faculty mentor and will be expected to complete a short research project and present the research findings to faculty and staff of the Center. Students assigned to laboratory-based projects do not have contact with nonhuman primates.

Program openings are available in the following Divisions of the TNPRC: Comparative Pathology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Veterinary Medicine's Behavioral management Unit. Applicants may state Division preference, but will not be able to pre-select. The Programs selection committee assigns students to mentors.


Application Deadline: February 3, 2020

Program Date: May 29, 2020 - July 31, 2020 (9 weeks)

Attendance is required for the 9 week duration, only apply if you can make this commitment.

 Applicant Prerequisites:

  • Completion of at least one year of undergraduate coursework in biology or biomedical related fields
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing
  • Motivation to participate in ongoing research projects at the TNPRC
  • Own transportation and housing arrangements
  • TNPRC is in Covington, a small town 45 miles north of New Orleans.
  • There is neither public transportation nor sidewalks/bicycle paths in the surrounding area.

Successful candidates will receive $10.67 per hour (based on 37.5 hour work week) for duration of the Program.
