Specific Responsibilities:

• Work with Principal Investigator (PI) and Project Director (PD) to refine and finalize draft study questionnaires and data collection tools;
• Collect data via quantitative and qualitative methods

• Coordinate data safety oversight under supervision of PI and PD
• Coordinates between collaborating organizations and/or other research and/or educational institutions.
• Oversee adherence to research protocols in obtaining informed consent, data collection and management and participant confidentiality;
• Provide regular data reports to PI and PD;
• Recruit, maintain and develop relationships with community partner recruitment sites
• Support aspects of project implementation, including budgetary, personnel, and data management.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the PI or PD

QUALIFICATIONS 

• BA/BS in a social science (anthropology, sociology, psychology, public health) or health field required
• Strong research, analysis, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently
• Flexibility is essential.
• The ideal candidate has the ability to work in both collaborative and self-directed situations.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 

• Knowledge of standard data analysis packages (e.g. SPSS, NVivo) is desirable
• Empirical research skills, as demonstrated by prior research projects or employment experience
• Social justice perspective and understanding of fundamental concepts of health disparities
• Experience with MS Office Suite and Dropbox
• Experience using electronic data capture tools like Redcap preferred.

Program Description:

CHALO!—“Child Health Action to Lower Obesity and Oral health risk” (from a Hindi word that means “Let’s get going!”) is a five year research study funded by the National Institutes of Minority Health and Health disparities. The project focuses on maternal empowerment and early childhood health risks associated with feeding and oral health in South Asian immigrant communities. The Project is directed by Drs. Alison Karasz and Karen Bonuck at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Research partners include a local nonprofit organization, Sapna NYC, and researchers at Columbia University, Rutgers University and other institutions.

CHALO! Includes three components: a descriptive study designed to understand the root causes of risky child feeding practices in South Asian immigrant families; a home visit intervention carried out by community health workers, and a community dissemination project to raise awareness about child feeding and health risks in the South Asian community in New York and New Jersey.

We are seeking a part-time study coordinator who will be responsible for conducting quantitative/ qualitative surveys/interviews, entering, cleaning, coding and analyzing data, assisting in writing and editing research reports, articles and other writing projects; other administrative tasks as needed. Potential for co-authorship on reports and scientific publications. The position will be based in New Jersey. Candidates should possess a valid driver's license and be willing to drive to research visits. Travel will be reimbursed.
