Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

We are seeking a microbiologist to join our Biological Materials and Biosynthesis Team through the New Materials Institute. The selected candidate will be a creative and devoted experimentalist, and will collaborate with other members of the team to develop new concepts and implement commercial biomaterial applications. The candidate will provide mentorship to peers and junior staff members in methodologies and experimental techniques in fermentation, optimization of the fermentation conditions for target microbes to facilitate rapid production of desired polymers at high yield, and fermentation batch analysis and troubleshooting. We are seeking a candidate with a working knowledge of fermentation and microbial physiology, and how to manipulate fermentation conditions and equipment to explore new ideas in engineering greater productivity of microbial systems towards novel and commercially viable bio-products. Through individual and team research contributions, the candidate will help establish their team’s success in addressing technical challenges with global impact. This position will involve significant hands-on laboratory work in addition to coordination of laboratory staff and resources. Supervision of staff and students will also occur.

Design and implement experimentation for fermentation parameters that positively affect microbial growth and bio-molecule synthesis for industrial scale fermentation systems.

Execute, monitor, troubleshoot and analyze data from scaled fermentation of biopolymers, including application of current published methodologies in efficient fermentation.
