The Western Carolina University Athletic Department is seeking a qualified individual for a 12-month, full-time position creating and producing video content and other digital media for the athletic department and university on its in-venue video displays. The director will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, with additional dotted line direction within the department’s External Relations including marketing, corporate sales, and video operations. This position will include a wide range of electronic media duties including, but not limited to, direct video content creation for the in-venue video boards for home athletic events during the year, production staff supervision, assist in the development and implementation of media-based marketing plans, and occasional assistance with WCU’s live event streaming and broadcast productions.
The Athletics Media Relations Director of In-Venue Visual Media will be assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations responsibilities including, but not limited to:
1)Live, multi-camera video shows of home WCU athletic events through the Daktronics video board displays, currently within E.J. Whitmire Stadium (football) and the Ramsey Center (volleyball, basketball);
2)Coordinating with WCU Athletics External Relations staff on fulfillment of sponsorship and marketing efforts tied to the visual media on the video displays;
3)Work in concert with the live video production workforce that consists of full-time WCU Athletics staff, student, and temporary/part-time employees; will be responsible for additional staffing, scheduling and serve as the direct supervisor of the in-venue show crew;
4)Create digital media including video promotional materials, graphic design elements, etc., that assist with ticketing, marketing, fundraising and overall;
5)Assist in the management of the inventory of equipment used by the video production crew;
6)Interface between the video board production studio and WCU Director of Marketing to manage football game day video board operations in the stadium/arena;
7)Assist in additional digital media creation for External Relations including items such as social media, website graphics;
8)Serve as the liaison and point-of-contact for the current video displays and their use in other university capacities and functions such as graduation commencement ceremonies, open house, campus orientation, or any other WCU event that will utilize the arena video signage; will work in concert with WCU Video IT and WCU Public Relations / Marketing Video teams;
9)Be the video display point of contact (for hire) for any additional shows or events utilizing the venues where the displays are located.
This position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to work with across multiple departments within and external to the athletic department. Flexible scheduling, including many evening and weekend hours, are required.
Candidate should be team-oriented, willing to work irregular hours and under a deadline.
For administrative purposes during the implementation of Career Banding this Journey level position is considered a Salary Grade 69.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
General knowledge of both sports and of video production (cameras, video equipment, formats, editing and producing, etc.); Experience in producing game-day video content and directing/producing live events; Proficiency in video editing software systems and a post-production system; knowledge of audio/video production techniques and standards; ability to conceptualize and create compelling photographic and video narratives on deadline; experience with other software editing programs and file transfer.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be
received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Ability to work in various editing packages such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or comparable; Functional working knowledge of programs such as Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator; experience with Daktronics Venus software for video boards/tables is a plus, as is experience with NewTek brand broadcast equipment; knowledge of file transfer protocols, ie.
