Departmental Overview

The University of California Men's Lacrosse club team prides itself on a winning tradition on and off the field. In 1980, Cal was a founding member of the Western Collegiate Lacrosse Association (WCLL). Today, the WCLL is one of the strongest conferences in the MCLA and consists of Cal, Cal Poly, Sonoma State, Chico State, Santa Clara, Nevada, Dominican, Stanford, Sierra Nevada, and UCSB. Each year, Cal competes for the WCLL title and a bid to the MCLA National Tournament. http://www.bearslax.org

Responsibilities

The Assistant Coach will be responsible for attending practices, shooting on goalies, running offensive and defensive drills, commanding the substitution box during practices, scrimmages and games, and assisting with recruiting.

Specific responsibilities will include:

Work with Program Director and Head Coach to run well-structured practices.
Analyze performance and instruct athletes in skills, techniques, and strategies in preparation for and during competition.
Supporting the implementation of a strong, cohesive system.
Creating and incorporating drills to ingrain team principles.
Communicating articulately and succinctly both in group and individual settings.
Inspiring and motivating young men to maximize their potential every moment of every day.
Assisting with creation of scouting reports and game plans.
Attend athlete recruiting activities, when possible.
Comply with MCLA and WCLL regulations.
Maintain a professional and positive presence in the lacrosse community.
Run scout offenses and defenses to aid in preparation for opponents.
Have necessary stick-skills to shoot on goalies and help with offensive drills when needed.

Required Qualifications

Proven record of competitive success at high school and collegiate level.
Strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of human behavior.
Knowledge of current coaching techniques/strategies.
Ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student-athletes.
Successful background check clearance.
Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification (Must be obtained within 30 days of employment)

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of coaching experience.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stages of student development and the importance of a holistic collegiate experience with focus on academic excellence.

Salary & Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience. Not eligible for UC benefits plan.
