The Residential Life is a department that reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students Office within the Division of Student Affairs. The Division of Student Affairs aims to advance the learning and personal growth of students by providing leadership, services, and opportunities that enable students to succeed in and contribute to a diverse and global society. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Residential Conduct & Community Standards in RSSP, the Coordinator for Residential Community Standards manages the day to day operations of the residential conduct process and the case intake process. Provides training and consultation to all Residential Education staff on campus and department crisis response processes and policies and response. Provides support to the academic mission of the University by contributing to students' out of classroom learning by maintaining and safe and secure community environment. Using specialized knowledge of learning and student development theory, advises staff by developing and maintaining community standards that align with safety/security protocols and optimized living and study environments to enhance academic success. The Coordinator assists the Associate Director in analyzing residential student conduct related policies, projects, programs, and issues in support of the residential housing operation.

  • Manage the residential conduct intake process.
  • Reviews all confidential student conduct information and makes recommendations in addressing various conduct and behavioral incidents.
  • Principal user of conduct database (Advocate).
  • Troubleshoot technical and user issues with campus and business partners.
  • Collects and reports on conduct related metrics, data, and trends.
  • Performs analytical studies on residential critical incident response protocol and periodically update.
  • Makes recommendations to management for changes and/or development of new protocols/systems.
  • Trains student and professional staff on community standards processes and protocols.
  • Advise student staff including Peer Review Board Coordinators.
  • Support the Assistant Director for Residential Conduct & Community Standards in implementing a robust residential conduct system that utilizes multiple resolution options.
  • May provide direction to clerical and/or student staff.
  • Prepares, edits, and modifies digital and print related documents including research reports, knowledge base, and training presentations.
  • Active member of RSSP Critical Incidents Team and provides recommendations on policy and procedure.
  • Gathers and assembles analytical and factual data on assigned critical incidences to prepare report and/or analyses summarizing information on the assigned issues and commenting on other significance for departmental constituents.
  • Backs up the Associate Director for Residential Conduct on campus committees (e.g. Student of Concern, OPHD Case Management) and internal department committees (Critical Incidents Team).
  • Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) for all Clery Act-reportable crimes.
  • Serves on campus-wide committees (e.g. CERC Subcommittee on Student Risk) and provides periodic reports and recommendations to RSSP/Residential Education.
  • Serves on other departmental and divisional committees as assigned.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external campus stakeholders critical to program success. Assumes other duties as assigned.
  • Stays abreast of current research and literature surrounding issues by participating in approved professional development opportunities (e.g. residential conduct, risk management, Title IX, Clery Act) to ensure that existing residential conduct protocols and processes are updated and in compliance.
  • Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) for all Clery Act-reportable crimes.

  • Working knowledge and experience in residential and/or campus conduct system.
  • Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience using conduct database system.
  • Knowledge of higher education and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Ability in problem identification, reasoning.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Solid ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.

    Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
