Senior Acquisitions Editor, Global Business - Georgetown University Press

The mission of Georgetown University Press is to publish content for a diverse, global readership and to be recognized as a premier press in our subjects. We currently publish approximately forty new titles per year, with an active list of almost 1,000 titles.

The creative and experienced Senior Acquisitions Editor will establish a list in business, especially in global business. S/he will become a vital member of the press staff, responsible for planning acquisitions, developing relationships with potential authors and editors, and contracting 15- 20 new book projects annually. Reporting to the Director of the Press, the Senior Acquisitions Editor has duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Develops relationships with current and potential authors and editors to acquire 15 - 20 new books annually in the field of business.
  • Travels regularly to scholarly meetings and campuses to serve as the public face of the press in the field of business and builds relationships with new and current authors.
  • Works with book series editors and collaborate directly with authors to acquire manuscripts for the press.
  • Proactively commissions and seeks out book projects and authors.
  • Monitors author delivery schedules and works with the editorial & production and marketing & sales staff to ensure a smooth publishing process.
  • Analyzes acquisition projects to determine potential sales and financial viability, presenting projects to the Publishing Committee and Faculty Editorial Board for publication.
  • Works closely with the Director to plan and develop strategies for acquisitions.
  • Negotiates terms of author, editor, and contributor contracts.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3-5 years' experience as Acquisitions Editor; 5-7 years preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
