The University of Mississippi seeks a dynamic and innovative content creator to serve as a Communications Specialist within the Office of University Marketing & Communications. The role of this job is to tell the story of the university and to do so in new and engaging ways to reach as many people as possible. Our students, faculty and staff do amazing things on this campus every day and we need storytellers with talent and ingenuity who will think outside the box in order to share those stories with the world.

The position is an integral member of our full-service communications team, which raises the public awareness, understanding and appreciation for Ole Miss with various target audiences. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Strategic Communications, this individual contributes to the production and dissemination of information to internal and external audiences through a variety of mediums and channels ranging from feature stories to marketing-style content. This individual will also be tasked with finding stories all across campus and with putting into practice new, innovative storytelling platforms that can help share the university’s story to even broader audiences.

We are looking for candidates that have: 

  • Demonstrated ability to tell stories across a variety of formats, channels and platforms.
  • Proficiency in producing materials in many writing styles including news and feature stories, as well as marketing and promotional content, for different target audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong grammar and spelling abilities. Thorough understanding of AP style preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in journalism, communications, English or a related field and three years of related experience.

This position is located on The University of Mississippi’s main campus in the beautiful town of Oxford. Often referred to as the “Cultural Mecca of the South,” Oxford has been the home of William Faulkner, John Grisham, Willie Morris, Barry Hannah and many more outstanding writers (http://visitoxfordms.com/). In recent years, it has become known for its award-winning chefs and restaurateurs. Oxford is often recommended by many publications as a bucket list place to visit.
