Postsecondary Career & Technical Education Research Fellows
The Postsecondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) Research Fellows Program at North Carolina State University (NC State), sponsored by ECMC Foundation, seeks applications for a year-long research fellowship to advance the field of Postsecondary Career and Technical Education. We are seeking to fund 15 to 18 research fellows from institutions across the country who are proposing postdoctoral research, entering the dissertation or master’s thesis stage research, or in a graduate program wanting to conduct research on current issues related to the field of postsecondary CTE.
About the Program
Housed within the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research at NC State University, this project seeks to enhance, strengthen, and further develop researchers that want to conduct research in postsecondary CTE at universities nationwide. The program will sponsor two consecutive classes of 15-18 research fellows, with three levels of support: Postdoctoral, Dissertation, and Doctoral/Masters. Fellowships range from $10,000 - $60,000 annually and will vary based on the level and time commitment (see application). The program is a year-long commitment: the 2020 class is the second group of fellows. The program starts with a face-to-face training institute in April 2020, and the program will run until May 2021.
All levels of research fellows will also be provided support, in addition to the stipend, of approximately $7,000 to support travel to participate in two face-to-face research institutes, an ECMC Foundation convening on CTE, and to meet with their assigned research mentor face-to-face. Additionally, research fellows will have access to participate in research methods webinars during the year. Fellows will provide quarterly reports, blog posts, a conference proposal submission, and a final research article.
Research fellows will actively participate in two face-to-face training institutes (two-days each), an in-person convening hosted by ECMC Foundation, virtual monthly meetings with their assigned research mentor and one in-person meeting, and monthly webinars on research methods and postsecondary CTE issues. Fellows will complete a substantial research project in postsecondary CTE, contribute to blogs on the state of postsecondary CTE and postsecondary CTE research, and work to disseminate their research by submitting to national conferences, convenings, and journals. Fellows will submit quarterly reports on their progress.

We welcome applicants from a variety of academic disciplines, such as education, economics, sociology, and business. Preference will be given to research proposals that address postsecondary CTE in terms of improving student success or using CTE to address larger problems such as economic mobility. Our view of student success uses the pillars of learning, transfer, completion, equity, and labor market outcomes. Projects can address one or more of these areas. Projects in other areas of postsecondary CTE are also encouraged.
