•This is a part-time (< .50 FTE) non-benefited position, hired on a term-by-term basis. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments.
•Part-Time Faculty compensation begins at Step 1 / $595 per load unit (LU). Load Unit is equivalent to class credit; and shall include both teaching and other assignments.
•Part-Time Faculty positions are not represented by the Faculty Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
•Initial assignment will be at the Bend Campus. May include travel throughout the College district.
•Official transcripts are required upon hire. Applicants anticipating Degree completion must supply a letter from his/her university stating the degree title and that the degree will be granted by that date.
•Upon hire, must pass criminal background check and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

To provide instruction in general biology courses. This includes lecturing, directing, and supervising student laboratory practices and providing field experience where applicable. It also includes providing individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress. Teaching and laboratory assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening, classes taught on or off campus. May include laboratory prep work and ordering of materials.

2.Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to each location, as assigned.

Marginal Job Functions

1.Act as a resource person for students.
2.Cooperate with other College personnel to assist students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1.Thorough knowledge of the field of Biology in the broadest possible sense.

2.Ability to use a variety of teaching techniques and instructional methods as are appropriate to a wide range of learning styles.

3.Ability to design, develop, and maintain instructional programs and curricula in the field of Biology.

4.Ability to work successfully with other faculty and COCC staff and administrative persons at all levels.

5.Visually able, corrected, to observe, direct, and supervise students in laboratory and field settings and experiences. Includes the ability to traverse steep and uneven terrain as part of the direction and supervision of field work in Biology.

6.Familiarity with, and ability to operate and oversee, the operation of audio-visual equipment. This includes overhead projectors, film and sound systems, video and television, and interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentation systems.

7.Ability to use desktop computers effectively to produce and manage documents and data.

8.Ability to orally communicate effectively with others using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter and with or without auxiliary aids or services.

9.Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or the professional literature.

10.Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations as required.

11.Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

The ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Persons in this position may be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials. All employees who have been identified as having the potential for this exposure will be offered the hepatitis B vaccination at no cost. The employee has the right to waive these inoculations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:
1. Education: Master’s degree in Biology or closely related field.
2. Demonstrated teaching experience within the area of instruction
3. Willingness and ability to travel to teach at any college location in Central Oregon

Organization

Central Oregon Community College, the oldest two-year college in Oregon, provides comprehensive college services to the residents of its 10,000-square-mile district.

COCC offers two-year associate degrees, transfer/lower division programs, career and technical education degrees and certificates, developmental courses, continuing education and community learning classes, industry-specific training programs, and business management assistance.

The College's main campus is located on the western edge of Bend, a city known for its natural beauty and its proximity to diverse recreational opportunities. The location affords spectacular views of the mountains from nearly every point on the 201-acre campus. The Redmond Campus, located 20 miles north on 25 acres near the Redmond Municipal Airport, offers all of the courses necessary to earn an associate degree. In addition, it is the home of the Manufacturing and Applied Technology Center.

Thanks to a successful 2009 bond measure, COCC has constructed campus facilities in Madras and Prineville, opening the two campuses in 2011. In Bend, new health careers and science centers opened in 2012 as well as a technology center in Redmond.

A branch of Oregon State University is located on the Bend campus. OSU-Cascades offers upper division and graduate programs on the COCC campus.
