Job Summary Atlanta Metropolitan State College, a four-year degree-granting institution of the University System of Georgia, is accepting applications for (2) Academic Tutor for the Support Services - STEM (SSS-STEM) program. SSS-STEM is a Federal TRiO Programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds, supplementing their existing education and preparing them for academic success at all educational levels. The SSS-STEM program at Atlanta Metropolitan State College currently serves 120 students on its beautifully landscaped campus which is located 10 minutes south of downtown Atlanta and 15 minutes north of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. This is a temporary non-exempt position that reports to the SSS-STEM Director. Applicants will provide individual and small group tutoring to SSS-STEM students. The Academic Tutor will assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them to clarify learning problems and work on study skills. Other educational assistance can include: reviewing class material, discussing text, test preparation, formulating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems.

Required Qualifications Applicants applying for this position must have at least a bachelor’s degree in English, preferably a master’s degree. English Tutors work with individuals and small groups. Typical work activities include instructing students regarding assignments related to English, helping with papers and exam preparation, and building confidence.
