The Department of Physical Education, Sport and Human Performance at Winthrop University is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and involved faculty member to serve in a nine month, tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Exercise Science. As part of an established team of professionals in sport and human performance programs, teaching assignments may include graduate coursework in the Sport and Fitness Administration, as well as a variety of undergraduate courses across the domain of exercise science and related disciplines.

The Exercise Science undergraduate program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) under the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES). Major Responsibilities:

• Teaching biomechanics, exercise physiology, scientific foundations, intro to exercise science, research methods, and other related exercise science courses
• Supervise students in field and internship placements
• Establish or maintain an ongoing record of scholarly activity and involve students as appropriate
• Engage in Professional Stewardship to the program, department, college, and university
• Advise and mentor undergraduate exercise science majors and graduate research and/or thesis projects
• Use technology to enhance student learning, increase access, maintain program data, and facilitate recruitment and retention efforts
• Provide service to the profession in community and professional organizations
• Engage in teaching and other program-related activities in the evenings, summers, online, and occasionally weekends, as needed

Employment Conditions:

Position is full-time, nine-month, tenure-track with option of summer employment if enrollment is sufficient. ABD nearing dissertation completion may be considered at instructor level in a non-tenure track one-year position.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Doctorate in exercise science, exercise physiology, or closely related field
• Record of emerging or demonstrated scholarship commensurate with rank
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at the department, college, university, and community levels

Desired Qualifications:

• ACSM certification at Exercise Physiologist level or higher and/or National Strength and Conditioning (CSCS) certification
• Experience with accreditation procedures and assessments (CAAHEP/CoAES)
• Teaching experience in higher education
• Experience in mentoring and/or supervising undergraduates
• Demonstrated ability in the use of technology and digital tools for instructional purposes, including online learning
• Experience working with diverse populations
