Basic Function

The Daytime Reference and Technology Librarian provides in-person and online reference and instruction services, participates in technology activities such as creating and maintaining online instructional materials, maintaining library social media, and other projects related to library technology.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Daytime Reference and Technology Librarian duties include:

•Providing reference services to students and faculty at the Reference Desk and online via email and our live chat service.
•Under the direction of the Technology Librarian, supports library technology functions, including staff and student technology support, the creation and maintenance of online learning objects (video tutorials, research guides, etc.)
•Participates in the creation of content for NOVA Libraries social media and library campus blog.
•Provided circulation services during assigned desk shifts.
•Develops and delivers course-specific library instruction as assigned.
•Participates in other library projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree plus 18 graduate credit hours in library/information science; or equivalent education, training and experience.
•Reference experience.

Preferred Qualifications

•ALA-Accredited Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science; or equivalent education, training and experience.
•Experience with multimedia creation and editing (video/film, still images, graphics)
•Familiarity with assistive technology.
•Knowledge/experience of HTML and CSS.
•Community college experience.
•Circulation experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•Ability to work 8:30am to 5pm Mondays – Fridays during the Fall and Spring semesters.
•Knowledge of library reference sources, classification, databases and service goals.
•Knowledge of information literacy pedagogy and ability to develop and deliver quality library instruction to meet information literacy outcomes.
•Strong communication skills and commitment to public service.
•Strong computer aptitude.
•Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
•Participate in other library projects as needed.
