Job Description Summary

Registered Nurse to coordinate student support services in the clinic setting. Collaborates with the Student Health staff to maximize patient care. Strives to improve awareness of student health issues and coordinates Student Health Service outreach efforts. Coordinates the allergy and travel medicine clinics. Full-time 9-month position during the academic year with summers off.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Student Support/Case Management

  • Provides clinical case management for students identified as in need of coordination of care, referrals and track/improve patient’s engagement in resources on and off campus. Works with providers to identify patients’ needs and will accept referral of students to help assist in managing approach to health and wellness.
  • Oversees and manages the data, acquisition of medical records and follow up for students referred to the emergency room for care. Collects data (weekly) regarding demographics and numbers of students seeking care in the emergency room. Maintains the spread sheet for students who required medical assistance for alcohol and other drug (AOD) related issues. Coordinates AOD referrals.
  • Oversees the referral system to departments and off campus providers. Tracks and obtains medical records from off campus providers and assures these records are sent to the appropriate SHS provider for review and coordination of care.
  • Coordinates with the Academic Advising Office for classroom accommodations, continuing enrollment status and health updates that may impact the student’s ability to function as a student.
  • Oversees the review of medical documentation for campus accommodations related to medical and disabling conditions submitted by students. Coordinates process for communicating student needs related to these medical conditions and student requests to appropriate on campus departments. Participates in committees which address accommodation processes as appropriate.
  • Plans and coordinates monthly University Counseling Center (UCC), Learning Assistance/Disability Service and Student Health meetings to coordinate care for identified students at risk.
  • Collects and manages results of depression screening in SHS and referrals to the UCC for students who screen positive on the PHQ-9. Collaborates with UCC staff to track referrals and student compliance with the referral.

Outreach

  • Coordinate Student Influenza vaccine and other immunization clinics as needed.
  • Coordinates outreach efforts of Student Health Service to the greater campus community.
  • Collaborates with other WFU personnel to provide content to marketing and messaging pertinent to health and wellbeing.

Travel Medicine Clinic Services

  • Manages International Travel Medicine Clinic. Coordinates meetings, group and individual education meetings related to travel itineraries. Demonstrate the ability to learn the travel medicine review process and protocols which provide individualized recommendations for travel related immunizations and medications. Partners with the SHS physician to develop the recommendations and maintains the electronic medical records related to travel consultations.

Other Functions:

  • Assist in clinic as an RN as needed.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in State of North Carolina (or eligible).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with SHS staff and patients.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of university records and medical information.
  • Proficient in use of MS Windows software and Electronic Medical Records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with management team.
  • Ability to practice effective communication skills both verbally and in writing. Communicates effectively and collaborates with management, medical and administrative staff, providers, patients and the public.
  • Ability to learn new applications, new requirements, and new programs as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of university records and medical information.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience working in progressive primary care clinic.
  • Experience with AAAHC and or Joint Commission Accreditation.

Accountabilities:

  • Works under minimal supervision.
  • Works under license as Registered Nurse by NC Board of Nursing.
  • Recommends, tracks and monitors specific budget items.
