Georgetown University, as a leading American and Jesuit institution, is committed to the cultivation of the whole person; the training not only of the intellect and spirit, but also the body. With this in mind, the Yates Memorial Field House was built to meet the recreational, instructional, and intramural sport needs of the entire University Community. As the primary recreation facility for Georgetown University, Yates offers comprehensive recreational programming to serve the needs of university students, faculty and staff.

The Personal Training program provides students and members with an opportunity to participate in a program that encourages and supports a healthy lifestyle in a fun environment. Supporting Georgetown University's Cura Personalis value, this position allows the trainer to offer individualized attention to participants, providing a unique exercise opportunity. Research indicates that regular participation in well-designed physical education lessons that support the holistic development of students can enhance the physical literacy of students. Exercise can be an effective component of a stress-management program, and all types of exercise can be beneficial for stress-management. Collegiate recreation participation may hold the key to academic performance; recent studies show a rise in students' GPA and likelihood of graduation as their exercise and physical activity behaviors increased. This trainer will interact with their peers in addition to Georgetown University faculty and staff, students, and members, allowing them to become a positive influence in the community,encouraging individuals to partake in a holistic, healthy lifestyle. This position reports to the Director of Fitness and Wellness at Yates Field House.

The Personal Trainer has duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Designs and leads Yates members through safe and effective workouts.
  • Works one-on-one with students and members to help them reach their fitness goals and promotes a healthy lifestyle.


Requirements
  • National certification from a reputable certifying organization (for example, ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA)
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification
  • Engaging and professional approach
  • Self-motivation with passion for helping individuals achieve their fitness goals
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, workout structure, and proper form
