Job Details

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) promotes excellence in research at the University of Oregon. Research, both basic and applied, is fundamental to the mission of the University and is essential to Oregon’s economic and civic vitality. OVPRI is committed to enhancing these efforts by providing administrative and financial support for sponsored programs, including identification of funding opportunities, proposal submission, research compliance, and contracts and grant administration.

OVPRI supports interdisciplinary research centers and essential core facilities and emboldens innovation and economic development through strategic partnering and technology transfer initiatives. The UO has a long tradition of interdisciplinary research that continues through the production of new knowledge and innovative solutions to society’s grand challenges.

SPS works with the University community -- including principal investigators (PIs) and department grant administrators (DGAs), UO administrative officials, business managers and affiliated organizations such as the UO Foundation -- to provide services in both pre-award proposal preparation and clearance and in post-award grant and contract administration.

UO is making significant investment in its research capabilities and is anticipating that the research portfolio will grow significantly over the next five years. We are looking for a seasoned research administration professional to help us manage this growth while maintaining our high standards in operating research programs.

The Post-Award Manager reports to the Post-Award Associate Director of Sponsored Projects Services (SPS). The Manager will supervise, mentor and train the post-award Sponsored Projects Administrators (SPA) who perform critical post-award tasks across the lifespan of an extramurally-sponsored project, from inception by review and acceptance of awards, through the award's administration, financial reporting, billing and closeout.

Core responsibilities of the Post-Award Manager include day-to-day management of post-award teams including unit assignments and direct supervision of post-award administrators’ workload and quality. The Post-Award Manager will have some unit assignments and will act as a resource to post teams on questions needing management guidance including compliance issues, process questions, and Banner problems. The Post-Award Manager will evaluate and mentor post-award personnel and assist with the development and implementation of training as needed to ensure that work is conducted consistently and accurately across teams. The Post-Award Manager will assist the Post-Award Associate Director in drafting, revising, and updating written standard operating procedures for post-award functions and will provide post-award metrics and other reports as needed to Associate Director and/or Director. The Post-Award Manager will manage, lead and complete special projects and other duties as required by the Associate Director and/or Director.

Organization

We’re a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities—one of only 36 public universities committed to scientific exploration and interdisciplinary research. We’re founded on and committed to a tradition of classic liberal arts education. One dedicated to overcoming barriers and discovering how much there still is to discover. We’re driven by what we don’t know, and by finding the answers.

Who we are and will continue to be
We exist to provide access to a high quality education for those who want one. Students who will help us shape the future. We’re here to spread knowledge, because knowledge is the wealth of any civilization. It adds depth and meaning to the world, and it can change lives on the most fundamental level, for the better. And we exist to cultivate excellence in all things, by preparing students to be active participants in a global society. Students who question critically, think logically, communicate clearly, act creatively, and live ethically. This is who we are. Who we’ve always been. And who we will continue to be.
