Our Software Licensing Professional administers and supports Software Asset Management (SAM) technical operations as part of the campus-wide Software Asset Management program. The SAM program collects and uses data about usage and coverage to right-size software license agreements, recapture licenses, and manage the amount and type of applications in the software portfolio. SAM provides customer-facing services to the University including a cohesive software catalog and knowledge resources, internal charge-back and cost-sharing models, internal software sales, and data to support enterprise business decisions. SAM develops, executes, and guides the process to support all program functions and administers technical tools to track, license, and distribute software. The program also manages software audit response and audit risk mitigation. See what OIT is all about by watching our This is OIT video.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeThe Software Licensing Professional is expected to have a working knowledge of the capabilities of each title in the software catalog.
Infrastructure administration and support:
  • Primary administrator of SAM tools, vendor-hosted administrative tools, and to support managed software, and any software license servers, license management tools, and software distribution tools.
  • SAM tool access provisioning and data and reporting delivery.
  • Developing and providing virtual and physical environments for limited software testing.
  • Setting up and maintaining Internal and external software distribution environments (campus-hosted license servers and download servers).
Systems integration:
  • Architecting and implementing SAM tool integrations with other management tools.
  • Implementing and maintaining APIs and other integrations between SAM tools and other applications.
Asset and license data:
  • Responsible for accuracy of data within SAM tools, including normalizing and organizing data.
  • Monitor, track, and report on license availability and use.
  • Generate, provide, and escrow individual license keys for managed software packages.
  • Generate regular and on-demand reports of SAM-related activities and data.
Operational support:
  • Provide timely, proficient, and professional responses to escalated support cases.
  • Assist with software testing (deployment and issue resolution).
  • Provide backup and overage support for the Software Asset Manager and the software-related duties of the ITAM Coordinator.

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University. A combination of education and/or related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with in an IT administrative role requiring attention to detail.

What You Will Need
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid documentation and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced experience with Excel and databases, and experience with cloud-based management apps.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows and macOS.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience with systems and/or server administration extremely helpful.
  • Experience working with software licensing management, asset management, or configuration management/CMDB.
  • Experience with SAM specialty tool, such as Flexera, Ivanti, or Snow License Manager strongly preferred.
  • Previous system administrator experience with asset and/or EUC management tools.
  • Familiarity with hardware technology and configurations including virtualization.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with ITIL principles.
  • Experience working within ServiceNow or similar ITSM tool.
  • Certification for Software Asset Management, Asset Management, ITIL/ITSM.
  • Administrative support role in an educational organization.
