Job Description:


The Division of Business and Community Services at Holyoke Community College is seeking a part-time instructor to teach Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide training course at Westfield High School, as part of a Nurse Aide-Home Health Aide training program. The class will take place daytime, G Period (M-F 1:07-1:56 pm) at Westfield High School per the Westfield Public Schools schedule. Instructor must be available 8 am - 3 pm for Clinical Rotations (2 weeks per semester), including some weekends (total 30 hours). Jan - May.


The Nurse Aide Instructor will implement a 120-hour Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide Prep course (including 30 hours of Clinical Experience), based on DPH-approved curriculum and in alignment with state regulations. With assistance, the instructor will develop curricula and plan course content, provide lectures and hands-on instruction, and evaluate training effectiveness so that students learn the specific skill sets and knowledge needed to obtain certification and to pursue a career as a nursing assistant/home health aide.


The instructor will need to become familiar with current state and federal regulations and will have to keep accurate attendance, grade, and skills information as required by the Department of Public Health. At least one year of experience working in a Long-Term Care Facility as a Registered Nurse is required, and at least one year experience as a teacher, trainer, health care personnel instructor, or direct nurse aide supervisor.


Other Job Duties include:


  1. Teach 4.1 hours per week (5 49-minute class periods) of Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide instruction, in alignment with Department of Public Health, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and HCC program standards, requirements, and expectations.
  2. Teach 30 hours of Clinical Experience (2 weeks), no more than 18.5 hours per week.
  3. Instruction should be hands-on and relevant, and inclusive of multiple learning styles.
  4. Must be willing to work as a member of a team, including high school Anatomy and Physiology instructor, career advisor(s), and program Director(s). Must be willing to adjust teaching to the needs of high school juniors and seniors, and to team-teach with Anatomy instructor. Works closely with Anatomy instructor, Career & Education Advisors, and Assistant Vice President for Adult Education & Workplace Development, to provide comprehensive approach to instruction and student support.


Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse; Minimum one year work experience in a long-term care setting; One year of prior educational experience; Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Post secondary teaching experience. Prior DPH instructor approval.


COMPENSATION: $60-$65/hr, no benefits


HOURS: 4.1 hours per week instruction and 15 hours per week clinical rotations (2 weeks)
