Advertised Job Summary

This position (“Security Architect”) reports to the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer of Governance, Risk & Compliance. Responsibilities include: taking a lead technical role in designing and implementing secure systems, collaborating with the DCISO to plan and execute the enterprise security vision, strategies, and implementation plans in accordance with a) the mission of University of South Carolina, b) information security best practices, and c) University Policy and Federal and State laws and regulations; developing, implementing and reporting on security and related programs measures and metrics; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems and 5 years experience; 3 years of direct experience in the development and implementation of information technology and security controls; or at least 9 years of equivalent work experience in information technology and information security.

Preferred Qualifications

Desired technical skills: · Experience working in a major enterprise network environment (WAN, LAN, and Wireless) · Experience with Identity and Access Management systems · Experience in the evaluation of new technology, system designs, and secure configurations · Experience with vulnerability scanning and application security assessments · Experience in performing information security risk assessments and in developing formal recommendations for improvement · Experience with a standards based risk management framework (i.e. NIST SP-800, ISO, COBIT, HEISC, etc.) · Experience implementing and maintaining compliance requirements (i.e. HIPAA, PCI DSS, etc.) Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISA, GSNA, CCNP, CCDP or other information security and networking certifications are highly desired.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of defining requirements, system design, access controls, enterprise architect, and system development lifecycle (SDLC). Experience with network firewalls, switching, routing, and security logging devices. Understanding of risk assessment process, monitoring, and reporting. Ability to apply information security principles to business solutions. Ability to act as liaison and effectively communicate information security topics (e.g., data constraints, information needs) to both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization. Knowledge in identifying and managing information security risks, threats, and incidents at an enterprise level
