The Online Instructional Designer provides instructional design for online and hybrid courses and curriculum. This position supports the University’s mission to provide enriching learning experiences to students across all delivery modalities. As a member of the instructional design team in the Center for eLearning and working in collaboration with the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, this position will support the development, design, redesign, assessment, and recommendation of pedagogical strategies and technologies for online and hybrid educational programs. The position will engage directly in quality promotion initiatives for online course and program delivery in the areas of faculty engagement, application of quality assessment rubrics, and internal quality enhancement initiatives and projects. By working closely with faculty, this position will identify new educational technologies, provide individual consultations, and, along with other staff, process and answer helpdesk tickets for general requests concerning eLearning tools and resources. This position also serves as the campus liaison for eCore.

Required Qualifications

Qualified candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year experience in instructional design.

Preferred Qualifications

1-2 years professional experience using a learning management system (e.g. D2L Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas) for instructional and course development.

Experience working in a university setting and interacting professionally with faculty and students.

Experience with the following educational technology and tools: Blackboard Collaborate, Kaltura, Qualtrics, Byte, BlueJeans Video Conferencing, Clickers, and Turnitin.

Application of quality assurance and assessment rubrics for online course delivery (e.g. Quality Matters).

Knowledge of pedagogical strategies and new technologies for online and hybrid educational programs.

Physical Requirements

Compliance Requirements

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.

Position Requires a Criminal Background Check.

Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).

Consult with faculty and other eLearning staff to design new courses and curriculum, revise and assess existing courses, and recommend pedagogical strategies and technologies for online and hybrid courses.
