Job Summary:

An employee in this class supervises and directs the work of an assigned user support team. Work involves the ability to manage the implementation of projects and/or system updates, as well as provide support for hardware and software, phones, printers, scanners, audio visual equipment, computer labs, and all other devices managed by the IT department.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, or a related field and five years of experience which included supervision of user support functions and audio-visual operations.
  • Considerable skill in managing and supervising the work of others to meet established deadlines.
  • Considerable skill in the providing technology support including diagnostics, deployment, security, repair and maintenance.
  • Considerable verbal and written communication skills.
  • Considerable skill in reading and understanding technical materials.
  • Working skill in project management techniques.
  • Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    1. Experience providing technical support to both office and classroom technologies in a higher education environment.
    2. Depending upon assignment, position may require specific technical knowledge and skills including, but not limited to, Active Directory administration, Microsoft SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager) and/or IP telephone systems.

    Essential Duties:

  • Manage and supervise activities of assigned staff including: establishing and maintaining professional work environment, evaluating performance and setting clear expectations, providing opportunities for skill development.
  • Monitor support service requests and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Collaborate with network engineers, developers, programmers, academic systems administrator and computer technicians as needed to insure high level of user support
  • Collaborate working with vendors and consultants to incorporate new technology
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff, faculty and students.
  • Assist in the development and administration of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Administer, manage, provide expertise, set priorities, and assign resources
  • Provide expertise in instructional technology to faculty, deans and administration to insure appropriateness and availability of hardware and software for instruction.
  • Assist in preparing bid specifications, RFP’s and other related purchasing documentation.
  • Develop and administer the assigned budgets to meet department goals.
  • Other Duties:

    1. May require travel to off-campus sites and out-of-state conferences.
    2. Perform other duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
    3. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends and after-hours support as needed by the department.

    Streamwood Center: In 1998, the college and Village of Streamwood remodeled the lower level of Village Hall to include computer and general purpose classrooms. Classes offered there make it easier for those who live in the eastern portions of ECC’s district to attend college.

    Satelitte Campuses: ECC holds classes throughout the northwest suburbs at off-campus locations scattered across the district. Whether it is a medical center where ECC nursing students assist in patient care, a fire station where students transform into prospective lifesavers, or a nearby forest preserve where bird watching takes over on Saturday mornings, ECC classes are somewhere nearby.
