The Laboratory Specialist Senior will work with the PI to investigate the molecular mechanisms of pseudoenzymes in signal transduction. In particular, to determine how the pseudophosphatase MK-STYX regulates the stress response pathway and prevents the formation of stress granules through various cellular processes. The Laboratory Specialist Senior will serve as the lab manager, and will supervise undergraduates and graduate students affiliated with the project, maintain lab equipment, and other supplies as needed, and assist the PI in completing experiments, formatting images, and writing manuscripts for publication.
Required QualificationsM.S. degree or equivalent combination of combination of education and experience indicating possession of the acquired knowledge, skills, and abilities. Demonstrated the ability to perform standard molecular and cellular biology and biochemistry lab procedures and protocols and ability to train undergraduate and graduate students in these protocols. Expertise in mammalian cell tissue culture, transient transfection assays, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, image analysis, subcloning, recombinant protein expression, protein purification, immunoprecipitation, western blots, and activity assays (e.g. kinase and phosphatase). Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent organization skills, essential computer skills (word-processing and Excel); attentive to details and strive for accurate results; and able to work independently and cooperatively.
