Liberal and Professional Studies Full-Time Lecturer in Physical and Life Sciences

The College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS) at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking qualified applicants for one full-time lecturer position to begin January 1,2020. The responsibilities of the position are divided between development and teaching duties (80%) for the Pre-Health Post Baccalaureate (PHPB) and the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) programs and (20%) oversight/administration for the BAAS Physical and Life Sciences (PLSC) concentration. The candidate will develop and teach an online foundational Life Science course, two - four terms per year. In addition, the candidate will teach one on-campus face-to-face course in Biochemistry each Fall and Spring term for the PHPB. The oversight/administrative duties for the position include, but are not restricted to:

  • collaborate with members of the online learning team for development and production support designing and developing the foundational Life Sciences online course and additional courses in subsequent years;
  • oversee the development and production support of a foundational Physical Sciences course and additional course in subsequent years;
  • ensure high quality, high impact instruction that delivers exceptional learning outcomes;
  • engage with students to offer guidance in a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment;
  • identify and recruit talented instructors as needed, provide support or coaching to those instructors;
  • suggest recommendations for improvement to content, assessment, or facilitation strategies;
  • Serve as point-of-contact for the PLSC courses for students in the program, and for LPS departments such as marketing, recruitment, advising;
  • review course syllabi from other institutions as part of the Transfer Credit process.

This 12-month position is eligible for reappointment for up to an additional two years, based on an annual performance review and approval of the Dean.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in one of the Life Sciences, commitment to undergraduate and continuing education, previous online course development and teaching experience are required.
