Description:

Hamilton College’s Career Center prides itself on early and intentional outreach to students, largely facilitated by the Discovery Team, a group of around 30 peer advisors who complete over 1000 appointments and 200 programs a year. After going through a semester-long training process, these peer advisor facilitate workshops on 8 different topics from the Career Center’s developmental curriculum. They also serve as proactive ambassadors to the Career Center, coordinating programs through residential assistants, athletic coaches, leaders of greek and student life organizations, and faculty and staff.

The Joan Hinde Stewart Career Development Program is a structured program involving around 30 first years who are identified based on factors such as financial need, first generation to college status, and English language learning status. Students participate in 10 workshops and 4 appointments throughout the year and are given a stipend for completing an internship or other career-related experience during the summer following their first year. In ‘18-’19, JHS expanded to offer the option to its upperclassmen to continue their career development through the program.

The Coordinator will provide operational support to the Associate Director of Career Development who oversees both of these programs. Primary responsibilities will include maintaining a robust schedule of workshops, event planning, data collection and analysis, and some oversight of staff. This is a part time, non-benefited position.

The Discovery Team Coordinator will help oversee day-to-day operations of the Discovery Team, including and the JHS Career Development Program:

  • Coordinating annual recruitment during the fall semester
  • Planning and preparing a 5-day, annual training/planning session for all staff
  • Helping manage workflow for scheduling, data analysis, content quality control, residential programming, outreach, JHS CDP, large-scale events, communications.
  • Preparing materials and agendas for weekly full staff meetings and at least six small team meetings, including operations & data team, residential programming team, outreach team, JHS Career Development Program team, events team, communications team, and core leadership team
  • Providing indirect oversight to the full team, including offering guidance to the leadership team in how to manage staff, stepping in when appropriate, and helping to resolve personnel issues as they arise
  • Coordinating quarterly performance review process
  • Collecting, maintaining, soliciting upkeep of, and regularly packaging data around various Discovery Team data points.
  • Serving as a liaison between the Discovery Team, marketing team, event team, and the Associate Director of Career Development.
  • Maintaining a $30,000 operations and $80,000 staffing budget

Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, time management, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Effective communication skills and an ability to cater communication style to different audiences
  • High-level leadership skills and an ability to manage, organize, motivate, and hold accountable employees with different levels of buy-in
  • An ability to think strategically, creatively, and operationally
  • A high level of execution and follow-through
  • Experience planning events
  • Well-versed in capturing data, tracking its progress, sharing it with constituents, and using it to guide future efforts
  • Budget management
  • A commitment to sharing information and to collaboration and teamwork with colleagues
  • Proficient in technology - social media, Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, Slack, etc.
