The Art History Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Digital Humanities and Visual Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2020. Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred.

The teaching load for this position is four courses the first year and five courses thereafter. The position requires institutional service including the advising of undergraduate students after the first year.

The department seeks applications from candidates working at the intersection of art history, visual studies, media studies, and digital humanities whose pedagogical and research interests concentrate on the use of images in art, literature, science, cinema, or popular culture. Period and geographical area of specialization open. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the histories, theories, and current debates in digital humanities, as well as demonstrated fluency in digital platforms and methods. The successful applicant will also be expected to conduct scholarly research and develop courses that foster critical and collaborative digital engagements across the college curriculum. This position is part of Hamilton College’s goal of hiring a cluster of additional faculty for the strategic Digital Hamilton initiative.
