Work Up Coordinator, Marrow Donor Program - Georgetown University Medical Center

The Work-Up Coordinator coordinates all donor activities such as information sessions, sample collection, physical exams and clearance, and travel arrangements for the C.W. Bill Young Marrow Donor center, up to and including stem cell donation and follow-ups after the stem cell donation. S/he reviews all medical screening information and performs follow-up with all DoD volunteer stem cell donors. Reporting directly to supervisor, the Work-Up Coordinator has duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinates and documents all arrangements for stem cell procurement from compatible donors, including conducting information sessions, arranging command authorization, pre-collection specimen donation, physical exams, and autologous unit donation.
  • Coordinates donor travel arrangements, completes collection forms and requirements, makes courier travel arrangements, and follows-up with donors post-donation.
  • Documents all actions and interactions appropriately within appropriate forms, documents, and databases.
  • Interacts with NMDP Case Management staff to ensure adequate and open communication.
  • Maintains skill and knowledge base as well as participates in team meetings and training's to expand own knowledge and that of team members.
  • Creates, sends, and tracks shipment of kits for donor specimen collection, coordinating collections with donors and ensuring a safe/timely delivery of kits.
  • Participates in contingency exercises and activities, as needed.
  • Prepares to provide significant extra assistance to program activities in case of emergency.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree in nursing or health-related field preferred. Upon evaluation, equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree
  • 1-2 years donor coordination experience, or 3-5 years, preferably in a health related field, or equivalent combination
  • Computer experience with word processing
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with colleagues and donors of diverse backgrounds and attention to detail
