Nurse Practitioner, Women's Interagency HIV Study - Georgetown University Medical Center

The Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS), now MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS), is funded by the National Institutes of Health and is a collaborative, multi-center, longitudinal study designed to comprehensively investigate the natural history and progression of HIV infection in women. The Washington metropolitan consortium is made up of three institutions under the leadership of Georgetown University: GU Medical Center, Inova Juniper Program, and Montgomery county Health Department. About 500 HIV-infected women and HIV-uninfected high-risk women were enrolled in the metropolitan WIHS and some 300+ of them are still actively participating.

The Nurse Practitioner is a key position in carrying out the research conducted with this program. S/he has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Conducts research activities including the physical exams at all the 3 participating institutions as per the research protocol.
  • Coordinates sub-studies as and when required.
  • Assists participants with enrollment in a number of sub-studies associated with the WIHS.
  • Assists in study visits for the core study consisting of a comprehensive interview covering participant's medical history and health care utilization, psychosocial status, substance abuse history, and sexual behavior.
  • Draws blood for immediate testing and for repository, assisting participants in undergoing a medical exam and tissue collection.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in clinical training—PA-C or Nurse Practitioner degree
  • Minimum 1 year with Master's degree and 2 years with Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in research protocols and quality assurance desirable
  • Experience in a University Medial setting is preferred
