Job Summary

The Department of Accounting at Eastern Washington University’s College of Business is currently inviting applications to fill one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to start Fall 2020.

Eastern is a regional, comprehensive institution where excellent teaching must be supplemented with an appropriate research program. The primary teaching area for this position will be accounting in the undergraduate and graduate programs. An ongoing research program and service to the university, college, and department are also required. Faculty offices may be located on either Eastern’s Riverpoint campus, adjacent to downtown Spokane in the University District, or on the Cheney campus, but all faculty are expected to teach at both locations.

Additionally, the candidate selected for this position will be expected to offer experience teaching online academic courses to a diverse college student body.

The College of Business is located on Eastern’s Riverpoint Campus in Spokane, and maintains an administrative presence in Cheney, a residential suburb and the location of EWU’s residential campus. The business program is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB-International).

EWU offers programs at various locations throughout the state. EWU has an enrollment of over 12,000 students, offers over 100 degree programs, and the College has an enrollment of approximately 1,500 students. Cheney and Spokane are 17 miles apart. Conditions of Employment

Multiple work locations (Main Office located at EWU Riverpoint Campus, Spokane, and a shared office is at the EWU Cheney Campus)

The required start date for this position is 09/16/2020. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/16/2020.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or DBA in Accounting or closely related field from an accredited university; ABD candidates close to degree completion will be considered for lecturer positions only
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching
  • Willingness to teach in an online format
  • Promise of being able to publish a sustained stream of peer-reviewed journal articles
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in professional accounting
  • Possesses an American Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license
  • Ability to teach financial accounting

A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, and service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.
Teaching: typical workload for this position will include 36 credits per academic year (80% of the workload), subject to department needs.
Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
Meet all scheduled classes
Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
Schedule and attend office hours
Turn in grades according to established deadlines
Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
