Provide a brief statement of the position duties. Teach a 3/3 load comprised of primarily undergraduate English content and pedagogy courses (e.g., Secondary English Methods, Teaching of Writing, Teaching of the English Language, Teaching of Literature, Literature for Young Adults); overseeing the English Education program, including all matters related to accreditation and advising; and directly supervising student teachers in English Education in a two-state area. Maintain an active research agenda within the discipline and contribute to advising and service to the department and university. This is a campus-based position.
Required Education: Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:
Required Minimum Work Experience: Required minimum qualifications include a doctorate in English Education or closely related field granted by August 15, 2020.
At least three years of successful teaching at the middle or secondary level.
Evidence of strong scholarship or scholarly potential in English Education or a closely related field.
Knowledge, skills, abilities or attributes required. ?Ability to work in close relationship with the School of Education coupled with a strong commitment to the Secondary English Education Program, to the English Department, and to the public schools of Michigan and Wisconsin.
Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
Commitment to learners of all abilities and backgrounds.
Ability to demonstrate commitment to innovative and effective pedagogies.
Experience with integrating technology, digital resources, and learning management systems into one's pedagogy.
Additional Desirable Qualifications: Evidence of teaching excellence in English Education methods courses at the college or university level.
Experience with supervision of field experience and/or program administration in English Education.
Evidence of a current, renewable, or lifetime teaching certificate in middle or secondary education.
Experience teaching literature for young adults.
Ability to teach courses in NMU's undergraduate General Education program (e.g., Good Books, film, mythology, first-year composition, etc.).
Ability to participate in ongoing assessment practices across course, department, and university levels.
